Raw vegan restaurants and cafes in Melbourne

It’s nice to know that you can also go out for a delicious and nutritious raw food meal at one of a growing number of locations in Melbourne.

Every day raw food

Yong Green Food

Yong Green Food

421-423 Brunswick St, Fitzroy / 03 9417 3338
Yong Green was the very first raw food restaurant I ever went to, and their range of raw food is amazing.

They offer a mix of wholesome organic raw food and vegetarian dishes, with a focus on macrobiotic principles and sustainability.

They cater for a range of dietary requirements, including raw, vegan, gluten-free, garlic and onion-free, oil-free and sugar-free. Just ask!

Shoku Iku

Shoku Iku

20 High St, Northcote / 0403 569 019
Shoku Iku is a raw food cafe, with a wonderful range of raw, living dishes plus herbal teas, smoothies, juices and ice-cream.

Their menu evolves with the seasons, and you can tell that everything is made with love.

The cafe is a peaceful, relaxing place, and although it can get quite busy at times, it never loses that wonderful, nurturing feel.

Vegie Bar

Vegie Bar

380 Brunswick St, Fitzroy / 03 9417 6935
Although the Vegie Bar started out as a vegetarian / vegan restaurant more than 20 years ago, they have kept up with the times and evolved in one of the top spots in Melbourne for raw vegan food.

Right across the street from Yong Green, they offer a great range of vegetarian, vegan, and raw dishes, and cater to special diets including gluten-free and organic options.

This is a great place to go if you want to introduce friends to healthier eating, because there’s sure to be something there to please (and surprise) everyone, and they create a great, modern vibe.

Occasional raw food

Monk Bodhi Dharma

Monk Bodhi Dharma

Rear 202 Carlisle St, Balaclava / 03 9534 7250
Tucked away behind the shops on Carlisle St, Monk Bodhi Dharma is wonderfully quirky from the get-go and constantly busy.

Primarily a coffee house, they also offer a solid range of vegan dishes on their all-day breakfast and lunch menu, with a limited selection of raw dishes.

They occasionally do an all-raw dinner on a Friday night, which you need to book for in advance, and their menu changes weekly.

Fit Inn Fitzroy

Fit Inn

29 Best St, Fitzroy North / 03 8060 0690
The Fit Inn is a newly opened healthy food cafe with the aim to create healthy food that nourishes your body and blows your mind.

They use organic, free range and seasonal produce wherever possible and offer many raw, vegetarian, vegan, paleo and gluten-free options.

They also don’t use any processed or refined sugars or grains, and make and package everything themselves.

Botanical Cuisine

Botanical Cuisine

58 – 60 Sackville St, Collingwood / 03 9419 4809
Botanical Cuisine make the most AMAZING gourmet raw, vegan foods, and they occasionally run a pop-up raw food restaurant called “Nettle”.

They list upcoming events on their website, and although there’s not always a listing, it’s worth keeping an eye on it, because their food is AMAZING.

If you know of other Melbourne raw food suppliers or resources that you think should be on this list, or you want to suggest a correction, please drop me a line.

My favourite kitchen gadgets

Having the right gadgets has totally changed my experience in the kitchen.

High-speed blender
Vitamix blender

I use my Vitamix blender at least 2-3 times EVERY day. It’s fast, so versatile and super quick and easy to clean. I couldn’t live without mine. I absolutely love it!

Food processor
Food processor

I use my powerful food processor three or four times a week, for making nut butters, desserts, sauces, burgers and more. It’s great for large batches and dishes that need texture and just makes “cooking” so much faster.

Dehydrator
Excalibur dehydrator

I use my 5-tray Excalibur dehydrator once or twice a week, for crackers, breads, biscuits, cakes or even just for thawing things. It does an awesome job and makes eating raw SO much easier.
